VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES!
Read With Me Volunteer Programs (RWM), established in 2004 by Roberta and Clay Klein, address the critical need for English-speaking role models in the Coachella Valley.
Recognizing the challenges faced by families living in poverty, many of whom work in agriculture with limited education, RWM focuses on English language acquisition for elementary school children.
The intergenerational and intercultural program encourages volunteers to commit two to three hours weekly, engaging with students in grades TK-6. Volunteers read with the children, helping with pronunciation and comprehension through thoughtful questioning.
The nonprofit is currently affiliated with 29 schools represented across the Coachella Valley, Tahoe, and Reno.
RWM’s mission has evolved to empower disadvantaged children living in non-English-speaking homes to enhance their reading and speaking skills.
Executive Director Sean Webb encourages both new and returning volunteers in the Coachella Valley to join this rewarding endeavor to help disadvantaged children become successful contributors to their local communities.
“Helping these students has given me a sense of purpose and joy,” said volunteer Ruth Shulby. “If you have just one hour a week to help as a volunteer, you will be happy you did!”
Read With Me Volunteer Programs is partnered with the Riverside County Office of Education’s Literacy by 5th Grade Initiative.
