Rancho Mirage Chamber of Commerce in the Community

This is another Adventure With Anne Series written by Anne Blaloc, Director of Business Development

How much do you know about the Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert?

Fun Fact #1: This is where the CDMoD all started: there was a need, a vision, created by teachers for the community and made into reality. Did you know that CDMOD’s first location was in a dentist’s office? Two teachers realized the need for a kids’ museum and did a pilot project in a dental office to see how it was received by the community. The response was enormous and led to the fundraising for and building of the current location.

Fun Fact #2: Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert has been around for over three decades. Three decades of rich history and dedication to valley families with the goal of inspiring creativity and encouraging families to interact together.

Fun Fact #3: Did you know that the “eyes” mural on the front of the building is made up of individual tiles, many of which have photographs on them of donors, members and community leaders? They plan to launch this unique fundraising opportunity again in the spring.

Fun Fact #4: The Museum is funded by earned revenue (admissions, memberships and programs, grants and donations).

Fun Fact #5: CDMOD is comprised of three separate buildings on over six acres of land. The “reIMAGINATION project” is a multi-phase renovation and expansion to include all three buildings and an exterior plan. Phase One, for which funds are being raised now, will allow the Main Gallery to reopen with over 40 new exhibits. The relMAGINATION will include exhibits like a 14 foot tall net climb, a rock climbing wall, the Hedge Theater and Puppet Theater, a Garden Taco Stand, and a dedicated “calm” space upstairs for those with sensory sensitivities or in need of a quiet space.

Fun Fact #6: Did you know that RMCC President and CEO, Katie Stice, worked at CDMOD for eight years and is now Co-Chair of the Board of Directors?
