Celebrating Water Awareness Month This May

Valuing water goes well beyond acknowledging local and regional sources. It runs much deeper than that. Valuing water requires understanding the bigger picture and taking meaningful action to conserve it.

Each year in May, California observes Water Awareness Month–an opportunity to reflect on the vital role water plays in our lives, and highlights the tools and strategies that help protect our supply for current and future generations.

CVWD invites you to celebrate Water Awareness Month by joining our community-wide efforts to save water. This may include:

  • Learning more about the water sources that sustain the Coachella Valley.
  • Adopting water-saving habits in your day-to-day activities.
  • Replacing home appliances and fixtures with water- efficient models.
  • Using a pool cover to cut down on water evaporation, reducing the amount of water needed to maintain proper pool water levels.
  • Finding and fixing irrigation and pool leaks quickly, as well as checking for outdoor leaks in pipes, hoses, and faucets.
  • Creating a water-efficient landscape by including desert-friendly plants in your yard.

Small, sustainable water efforts at home go a long way. CVWD’s Indoor Water Conservation Kits are a valuable resource and are available for free to eligible homeowners on a first-come, first-served basis.

CVWD Indoor Water Conservation Kits Include:

  • Earth® 3-Spray Handheld Shower Head, 2.0 GPM.
  • Water-Saving 7-Spray Garden Hose Nozzle.
  • Moisture Meter.
  • Leak-Detection Dye Tablets.
  • Plumber’s Tape.
  • 5-Minute Stop In Time® Shower Timer.
  • Dual Spray Kitchen Swivel Faucet Aerator, 1.5 GPM.

CVWD also offers rebate incentives for residential, HOA, and commercial customers to help reduce outdoor water use. This includes rebates for smart water technology, such as the free Hunter Pro-C Solar Sync Smart Irrigation Controller, Rachio Smart Sprinkler Controller, and Flume Smart Home Water Monitor.
