Changing the Lives of Our Youth
Do The Right Thing (DTRT) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to recognizing and rewarding school-age youths for positive behavior, good deeds, and integrity by amplifying their stories to serve as role models for their peers.
The organization was founded in 1990 by Terri Ketover, a consultant to the Chief of the Miami Police Department. In 2023, Terri established the program here in the Valley. He explains, “The inspiration for the program came during a police department awards ceremony when an officer highlighted the need to recognize a teenager who had turned in a loaded gun found at his school.” Terri was inspired by that example and saw the greater potential stories like that has on youth behavior. “I designed a program to recognize school-age children for their socially desirable attitudes, behaviors, and accomplishments. It also enhances their self-esteem, and establishes these young individuals as
positive role models for their peers,” he concludes.
In April 2023, DTRT expanded its reach into the Greater Palm Springs area through collaboration with community members, law enforcement, and local media. Over 600 local students have since been nominated, with 63 earning special commendations, showcasing the ripple effect of kindness and compassion in our communities. Behind the scenes, DTRT has been working hard and is proud to introduce its Scholarship & Student Help project, offering support to graduating seniors and students in need, aiming to ease the burden of educational expenses and open doors to brighter futures. DTRT has received recognition from esteemed institutions like the Florida House of Representatives and the White House, along with the recent “Community Delinquency Prevention Award” from the Juvenile Justice and
Delinquency Prevention Awards Committee. This highlights DTRT’s global impact on over 500,000 students, showcasing the transformative power to Do The Right Thing.
DTRT isn’t just an organization; it’s a lifeline for young souls navigating the complexities of growing up. It’s a testament to the belief that acts of kindness, integrity, and selflessness deserves not just acknowledgment but celebration.
Together we can empower and uplift the next generation of leaders. This is all made possible through generous donations, community partnerships, and local support.
