Honoring Our Rancho Mirage Veterans

Veterans Day- November 11, 2023

To pay tribute to those who have selflessly served our nation and honor our Veterans. The United States has designated November 11th as a day of remembrance. This occasion provides us with a meaningful opportunity to recognize the invaluable contributions of living veterans publicly and express our gratitude for their unwavering dedication and service.

Veterans Day’s origins date back to November 11, 1919. Initially known as Armistice Day, in honor of the first anniversary of World War I’s conclusion, marked by the armistice agreement on November 11, 1918, the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. In 1926, Congress passed a resolution to establish Armistice Day as an annual observance, but it wasn’t until 1938 that it became a federal holiday. In 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower officially renamed it Veterans Day, broadening its scope to honor all veterans from various wars, not just World War I.

Today, we celebrate Veterans Day on November 11th, acknowledging its historical significance. The United States is home to over 16 million veterans, many of whom reside in Rancho Mirage.

As part of the City’s 50th Anniversary, our community leaders wish to inaugurate a special Veterans Day celebration to honor the selfless service of our Rancho Mirage veterans for the greater good.

On November 9th, at 5:30 p.m., the Rancho Mirage Amphitheater will host a heartfelt gathering dedicated to paying tribute to our esteemed residents who have served our nation. The event will feature touching stories, a memorial remembrance, a flag ceremony, and a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance. To make the evening even more memorable, Desert Theatricals will present a USO-style show reminiscent of the Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy era.

We warmly invite all to come together and celebrate America’s veterans, recognizing their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. Join us in honoring those who have given so much to our nation.
