Embracing a New Era in Dental Education

Dr. Carlisle, the Clinical Director at Western University of Health Sciences on Dental Education

Dr. Carlisle, the Clinical Director at Western University of Health Sciences (WesternU Health), has found immense satisfaction in his transition from running a dental practice to shaping the future of dental education. Since joining WesternU Health in 2020 amid the challenges of the pandemic, his journey has been nothing short of transformative.

Motivated by a passion to make a meaningful impact on the dental industry, Dr. Carlisle has dove into dental education with vigor. We Care Dental, a crucial part of Western University of Health Sciences, exemplifies a patient-centric and educationally-focused approach to dentistry.

“When I moved from my practice into education, I recognized a need. I asked myself, ‘How else can I contribute to this field?’ This question led me to dental education,” Dr. Carlisle says. We Care Dental, deeply embedded in WesternU Health’s mission, is dedicated to delivering exceptional care to seniors, individuals with special needs, and others who lack access to dental services. Established in 2009 by Marianne and Russel Benson as a non-profit, We Care

Dental has continuously expanded, notably partnering with Desert Friends of the Developmentally Disabled in 2011.

By 2016, We Care Dental had joined forces with Western University of Health Sciences, enhancing its community outreach and providing invaluable hands-on experience for third- and fourth-year dental students. While resident students might suggest longer appointment times, the quality of care remains top-notch, thanks to the oversight of experienced dentists. This partnership ensures that dental services are both excellent and affordable.

We Care Dental boasts groundbreaking facilities and a team of nationally acclaimed professionals who prioritize patient comfort above all. The staff cultivates a warm and welcoming environment, ensuring that patients’ concerns are addressed and that they feel valued, transforming what might be stressful dental visits into pleasant experiences.

Dr. Carlisle commends the exceptional team at We Care Dental, highlighting their compassionate and inviting nature. Despite the anxiety often associated with dental visits, the team’s dedication to making each appointment enjoyable underscores the positive ethos of We Care Dental.
