Golf cart tip of the month! Written by JR Thomas
Believe it or not…. There is the correct time to water your batteries!
Here’s why…when you water your batteries when they are cold, you can actually
overfill them. This is because when changing lead-acid batteries, they will expand
approximately 14 inches, causing the acid to rise up through the ventilated caps. When you water batteries that are heated, the fluid is in its expanded state so it won’t let you overfill. This is especially true when you have an auto fill system with hand pump or gravity feed. We suggest you add water shortly after the charger has just turned off. This keeps the acid “in” the batteries, and not on the top of them where it can eventually cause the cables to corrode, leaving you stranded on the
course.
