Dr. Carlisle, Clinical Director of Western University of Health Sciences (WesternU Health), has found joy transitioning from operating his dentistry practice to contributing to dental education. Joining WesternU Health in 2020, at the height of the pandemic, his journey has been a rewarding adventure.
Driven by a desire to positively impact the industry, Dr. Carlisle embraced dental education with enthusiasm. We Care Dental, under the umbrella of the Western University of Health Sciences, embodies a humanistic approach centred around patient care and education.
“When I transitioned from my practice into education, I saw a need. I thought, ‘What else can I do for the industry?’ That’s when I got attracted to dental education,” said Dr. Carlisle. We Care Dental, an integral part of WesternU Health’s legacy, stands out for its commitment to providing quality care to seniors, those with special needs, and others without access to dental services. Founded in 2009 by Marianne and Russel Benson as a non-profit organization, We Care Dental has grown steadily, expanding its services and partnering with Desert Friends of the Developmentally Disabled in 2011.
In 2016, We Care Dental transitioned to partner with Western University of Health Sciences, aiming to enhance community service and provide third-and-fourth-year resident students with valuable education and experience. Despite potential trade-offs in service time due to less experienced residents, the dental care remains excellent, supervised by seasoned dentists, and delivered at affordable rates.
We Care Dental, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and staffed by award-winning, nationally recognized professionals, prioritizes patient comfort. The team fosters a positive atmosphere, ensuring patients’ questions are answered and they feel personally connected, turning potentially nerve-wracking dental visits into enjoyable experiences.
