The Value of a Licensed Medicare Agent

Written by Joanna Gebhart, Licensed Insurance Agent

Why it is Important to Work with a Licensed Agent for your Medicare Choices?

People often question the necessity of working with a Licensed Agent when reviewing their Medicare choices. Medicare is complex, and having a thoroughly trained agent helps ensure you receive all the information to make the best choice and meet your medical and financial needs.

A licensed Agent spends a good portion of their summer certifying with each carrier they represent. This requires hours of review and testing for every carrier, including learning about each new product being introduced and all the changes to existing plans for the new year. Formularies can change, plans can add or decrease benefits, and licensed Agents are trained in these changes.

I send out a letter to my clients each October. This is a reminder that the Annual Election Period (AEP) is approaching, and they should be watching for their existing carrier’s Annual Notice of Change (ANOC), which outlines any plan changes for the upcoming year. I review these with my clients to ensure that their plan is still the best choice for next year. It also provides the opportunity to make an appointment to discuss any health changes that could lead to considering another plan.

Additionally, I work with my clients to avoid late penalties, which can be assigned for missing timely enrollment in Parts B (Doctor) and D (prescription plan), causing additional monthly costs.

As your Agent, I will work diligently to ensure we review options and make the best decision for your situation.
