The Stanley Steemer Story

Founded on pure American grit and dedication, Stanley Steemer sprang to life in 1947 as a humble one-person show by the visionary Jack A. Bates. Stanley Steemers has evolved from a one-person endeavor into a thriving, family-owned business, now led by its third generation. With a presence in 49 states, boasting over 275 locally owned franchises and company-owned locations, the iconic yellow van, memorable jingle, and 75+ year legacy are ingrained in American homes.

With a humble $2,300, Jack Bates laid the foundation for The Jack Bates Carpet Cleaning Company in Columbus, OH. The journey took an exciting turn when Wesley Bates, Jack’s son, joined full-time in the early ‘70s, complementing his father’s entrepreneurial spirit.

A pivotal moment arrived in 1972 with the creation of their groundbreaking steam-cleaning marvel, Stanley I. Inspired by steam-powered automobiles at the Stanley Motor Carriage Company, and a tweak in the spelling led to the birth of the name “Stanley Steemer International, Inc.” Their distinctive black and orange colors drew from Wes Bates’ high school alma mater.

Entering the new millennium, Stanley Steemer embraced innovation. The 2000s marked the introduction of Tile & Grout cleaning services and the pioneering of online scheduling through the internet on stanleysteemer.com. They also expanded into Alaska and Hawaii representing significant milestones in their nationwide growth across the nation.

But excellence is a journey, not a destination.

Today, they’re forging ahead with our cutting-edge carpet cleaning promises. Ensuring cleanliness, a fresher scent and faster drying times all while eradicating a staggering 94% of common household allergens from carpets, tile, grout, and hardwood floors.

So here’s to 75+ years of passion, dedication, and pristine carpets. Stanley Stemmers continues to work hard to shaping the future of clean, one innovation at a time.
