Sunrise Giving Circle

Written by Bonnie Shively

Several years ago, I started The Sunrise Giving Circle, a group of women who come together to support local charities in the desert. While there is wealth here, there is also significant poverty.

We meet monthly during the season. A hostess selects a local charity, provides dessert, and invites a speaker to share their cause. Each member donates $25 or more. Over the years, we’ve donated more than $50,000 and gained a deeper understanding of our community.

This year, we partnered with Shoes That Fit and Hoover Elementary to outfit 335 students with new shoes and socks by Christmas. We also raised funds for art supplies and outdoor games. Hoover Elementary, one of the poorest schools in the valley, is incredibly grateful for our support.

I encourage other desert communities to start a Giving Circle—it’s simple, fun, and impactful. Join us for our first meeting on December 9th! Our other monthly meetings will be held on 1/27/25, 2/24/25, 3/31/25 and 4/28/25.
