The Fantasticks—the longest-running musical in the world and a timeless favorite of theatergoers for over 50 years— takes the stage in a captivating new production by the Sun City Performing Arts Club. With its universal themes, enchanting music, and enduring message, this beloved classic continues to inspire audiences.
Accompanying the talented cast onstage will be Music Director Wayne Abravanel on grand piano, joined by harpist Vanessa Sheldon Fountain, bringing the show’s iconic score to life.
At the heart of The Fantasticks is a charming tale of young love, tested by meddling fathers and the enigmatic bandit- narrator, El Gallo. What begins as an innocent romance soon unfolds into a whirlwind of adventure, deception, and self-discovery. Along the way, the lovers navigate the joys and follies of love, reminding us of its mysteries, sweet simplicities, and the many ways we manage to complicate it.
Through the classic song “Try to Remember,” El Gallo invites us to reflect on love’s journey—its innocence, heartbreak, and ultimate wisdom. Our dynamic cast brings these moments to life, transforming seamlessly from youthful lovers to seasoned storytellers as they become an acting troupe within the show itself.
Director Lisa Lincoln, hailing from Santa Fe, New Mexico, is thrilled to bring her vision to this production. “We are going to take this beautiful tale and tell it through the eyes of the actors, remembering love at any age,” she shares.
