Read With Me Volunteers Needed

Read With Me Volunteer Programs began in 2004 by Roberta and Clay Klein when they learned that local schools in the Coachella Valley School District were in dire need of English-speaking role models to help disadvantaged, low-income children living in homes where no English is spoken to improve English language skills.

“Today we are a non-profit organization providing 500 volunteers to 22 schools,” proudly states Founder Roberta Klein. “Over the years, Read With Me Volunteer Programs has helped hundreds of disadvantaged children lead more productive lives.”

Having five hundred volunteers on the RWM team may seem like a lot of individuals donating time to the cause; however, believe it or not, more volunteers are urgently needed to fill the many openings at several Coachella Valley elementary schools.

Volunteers are asked to provide in-person tutoring for the students, one or more hours, once a week, for a minimum of eight weeks during the school year. One-on-one or group tutoring is a very rewarding experience for both the volunteers and the kids. Read With Me Volunteers provides volunteer training sessions before sending the volunteers to their assigned school. The teachers will provide the materials for use with students. For more information or to obtain an application about this rewarding opportunity, call (760) 567-1830 or visit www.readwithmevolunteers.com.
