The long and hot summer may be over, but your car still requires attention in the Fall and Winter. This is the time of year when more of us will get out of the house more often, driving many more miles in October and November than we did in July and August. The following are a few tips to help you stay on top of things.
1. Summer temps are very tough on your car’s battery. It doesn’t seem fair, but colder temps are tough on it too. Your battery should be tested every time your vehicle is serviced, before you begin a trip of any length, and at the first noticeable symptom–often the engine cranks over more slowly, or your clock may not keep time.
2. Tires may lose air a little faster in the cooler months because of the slight contraction and hardening of the rubber they are made of. Tire pressure should be checked monthly and, just like your battery, before a trip out of the Valley.
3. It’s true modern vehicles do not require oil changes as often as they used to, but they still have vital fluids which should be checked monthly, along with various filters-engine air and passenger compartment air (also called a cabin filter) should be checked often in our dusty land. Don’t forget the wiper blades as well. The twenty or thirty dollars you save be skipping the wiper blades will turn into a “face palm” moment, the next time it rains.
The good news is, your local Quick Lane Service Center, at the corner of Avenue 40 and Adams, is happy to assist you with all the above. For discounts on The Works® see page 3. At no cost or obligation, our friendly staff will test your battery, check your tire pressure, check your engine oil and other fluids, and look at the wiper blades. If anything needs attention, estimates are always provided up front, before a penny of your money is spent.
