SCSH Residents Wayne & Susan Boyer Opening New Osteostrong, a Wellness Center in Palm Desert
Sun City Shadow Hills residents Wayne and Susan Boyer are opening a new Osteostrong Wellness Center on Varner Road at Washington in the Palm Desert Marketplace on May 20th, just in time for Osteoporosis Awareness Month.
Osteostrong is a chain of wellness centers whose simple,15-minute weekly guided sessions on proprietary equipment, designed by Dr. John Jaquish, improve bone density, posture, and balance. The Boyers decided to open the center after Susan was diagnosed with osteoporosis. Their backgrounds with the corporate side offranchising, having been a part of successful operations such as Baskin Robbins and IHOP, practically guarantees a bright and successful future.
“Pharmaceutical medications can help some people,” says Susan, “but have serious side effects, including fractured femurs since they make bones stronger but also more brittle.” Susan wanted to try Osteostrong, but when she saw that the closest center was in Riverside, she and Wayne decided to open a franchise right here – the fi rst in the Coachella Valley.
“Osteoporosis affects about one in three women over fifty,” says Wayne, a lifelong athlete who has been a semi-pro ice hockey player, scratch golfer, and now pickleball enthusiast. Having trained at a high level all my life, I was impressed with the Osteostrong approach, which focuses on what is known as osteogenic loading—putting added pressure on the bones to stimulate growth in a safe and pain-free manner.”
Many Osteostrong members have been able to halt and even reverse their osteoporosis with regular sessions. In addition to the core, 4-piece Spectrum equipment, the center will offer a vibration plate; two Red Rooms with infrared plates to combat inflammation; pulse electro-magnetic PEMI mats to alleviate pain and reduce infl ammation; and Normatec compression boots to improve lower-body circulation.
