The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute located at the California State University San Bernardino Palm Desert Campus on Cook Street has been presenting lifelong learning to our desert community since 2003. The OLLI program is for adults aged 50 and above. It offers classes on a huge range of subjects and there are no homework assignments or tests; courses are presented simply for the joy of learning.
Membership is $75 a year which gives access to many free member events on a wide range of topics, such as the upcoming classes on the uses of medical cannabis or learning about the hummingbirds of the Coachella Valley. Semesters vary in length and students attend one class for either one, three or six weeks.
Matching the CSUSB student learning model, we are currently using the distance learning platform, but we look forward to welcoming our student members back on campus for our 3-week courses which begin on March 14th. This 3-week semester includes courses on creative writing, a class on the birth of American modernist photography, a look at Broadway’s golden years and a current events discussion group.
