Letter From the Editor – Sept SCI 2023

Dear Readers

As we look forward to welcoming the fall season, there is a lot of action
happening in the desert. On page 4 Gary Boldizar from Fiesta Ford wrote a
thoughtful reflection on his experiences during Hurricane Hilary and strategies
for ensuring readiness in the face of impending storms. The Palm Springs Air
Museum is launching a visionary educational expansion; turn to page 10 to
find out the details and how you can get involved with the next generation of
aviation. If you have ever thought of taking courses in your retirement years,
the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute has numerous subjects for you to explore;
see page 12 for details.
Last, but not least, we are excited to introduce Dr. Pasquale Picchione, an
esteemed resident of Sun City. Confidant and healer to none other than
Frank Sinatra, Dr. Picchione’s narrative unfolds on page 20, revealing his
distinguished life’s journey. From his origins in Rhode Island, through the
ranks of military medical service, to the captivating allure of Hollywood’s
luminaries, his trajectory resonates as a testament to dedication. Notably, Dr.
Picchione’s contributions extend to the medical landscape of the valley, as
one of the pioneering Orthopedic Surgeons at the Eisenhower Medical Center,
subsequently ascending to the role of Medical Director at Desert Urgent Care
in Palm Desert.

Regards and Happy Reading!
