Featured Residents Bill & Diane Taub

Some life stories unfold with such natural rhythm that they feel almost cinematic, not because of grand gestures, but because of the way curiosity, courage, and creativity quietly guide each chapter forward. Diane and Bill Taub’s journey is one of connection, lifelong learning, and a shared belief that purpose doesn’t retire, it simply evolves.

Both Diane and Bill grew up on the East Coast, shaped by strong family roots and vibrant city life. Diane was raised in Brooklyn and went on to build a remarkable 35-year career in education, living in New Jersey before spending two decades in Toronto, where she raised her children and guided generations of students as a counselor— ultimately becoming the Coordinator of Student Leadership Training at the prestigious Harvard-Westlake High School

in Los Angeles. Bill, a Queens native, was drawn early to storytelling and entertainment, attending and graduating from the renowned High School of Performing Arts (the “Fame” school). He began his career in advertising as a writer-producer before forging a successful path as a television writer and producer, with work spanning some of the most recognizable shows of the past several decades.

Long before they met, their lives were already brushing against one another in unexpected ways. Their families once owned summer homes on the same lake (White Meadow Lake) in New Jersey, and years later, their parents would coincidentally retire just minutes apart in Florida, connections they would only discover after becoming a couple themselves.

They finally crossed paths in 1995 through an unconventional avenue: the early days of the internet. While Bill was briefly in Toronto working as a writer-producer on Kung Fu: The Legend Continues (a project meant to last only eight months) he posted a simple message online hoping to meet local people and explore the city. Diane, curious and open-minded, responded. What began as a casual exchange quickly revealed shared values and a natural ease of conversation. Despite living in different cities and maintaining full professional lives, they stayed connected, then eventually built a life together that took them from Toronto to Los Angeles and, years later, to the local desert.

Diane and Bill were longtime visitors of the area owning a time-share at the Palm Springs Tennis Club because they were drawn to the sense of community they felt here. When the pandemic prompted a re-evaluation of priorities, the desert and eventually Sun City stood out not as a retreat, but as a place to stay engaged, active, and connected.

Diane quickly became immersed in community life. A passionate advocate for health and wellness (besides being an Arbonne Consultant for 14 years she now works as a trainer with OsteoStrong after personally reversing her own osteoporosis) and she is deeply involved in volunteer efforts throughout the desert.

Diane’s enthusiasm extends to pickleball, cycling, fitness classes, hosting social gatherings, and supporting local organizations. In recognition of her impact, she was honored as Ambassador of the Year by the Rancho Mirage Chamber of Commerce in 2024.

Bill continues to do what he has always done: create. As a lifelong writer, he remains actively involved in developing screenplays, television projects, and mentoring aspiring writers through UCLA Extension. In Sun City, he has also embraced the performing arts community, taking part in productions and lending his advertising expertise to publicity and creative initiatives. His belief is simple: this stage of life offers the freedom to focus on meaningful work that genuinely matters.

Together, Diane and Bill embody what active living in Sun City can look like: staying curious, contributing generously, and supporting one another’s pursuits. They often refer to themselves as each other’s “biggest fans,” a genuine reflection of mutual respect and encouragement.

For their neighbors, their story offers a powerful reminder: retirement is not limited; it’s freedom to explore your passions. Whether through creativity, service, movement, or connection, they want to inspire others to keep evolving, stay engaged, and write their own next chapter with intention.
