Empowering Generations: GPL Grandparents Love’s Impact in the Heart of Coachella Valley

In the ever changing landscape of the Coachella Valley, GPL Grandparents Love (GPL) stands as a beacon of support for an ever growing demographic—grandparents raising grandchildren. Since its inception in 2020 by founder Aristotle McDaniel, GPL has provided a comprehensive range of services tailored to meet the diverse needs of these caregiving grandparents.

At the core of GPL’s mission is the belief in fostering a strong sense of community and belonging among its members. Through a supportive network that encourages sharing, advice-seeking, and meaningful connections, GPL goes beyond providing essential resources such as legal, financial, and housing aid. The organization’s innovative support programs are more important, and more in demand, with each passing day. According to a recent survey conducted by Health Assessment and Research for Communities (HARC) 1.9% of the children in the Coachella Valley are being raised by their grandparents. The vast majority of these children are under 11 years of age. At first that number doesn’t sound alarming, but with an estimated 88,360 children in the Coachella Valley age 17 and younger, almost 1,800 children are living with grandparents. The percentage of single grandparent homes is not known, but it is inevitable that number, and indeed all the numbers listed above will continue to grow.

By empowering grandparents to navigate their renewed parental-roles with confidence and resilience through workshops and support groups, GPL not only enhances their well-being but also recognizes their pivotal role in shaping lives and communities. This recognition translates into a ripple effect of positive impact, contributing to the overall welfare and stability of families in the Coachella Valley.

Through its unwavering commitment to compassion, support, and community, Grandparents Love is not just changing lives—it is paving the way for a brighter and more empowered future for grandparents and their families.
