Exciting New Expansions With Artisanal Baking and Catering
Chef Philippe Caupain, the Belgian-born culinary master, was discovered for his talent for cooking at the young age of 15. His journey into the professional culinary world began with an apprenticeship at the renowned Le Prevot Michelin star restaurant in Laroche, Belgium, where he spent over a decade perfecting the intricacies of French cuisine. His dedication to excellence propelled him to America, where he continued to refine his craft at distinguished establishments like Maxims de Paris Hotel in Palm Springs and as the executive chef at Thunderbird Country Club.
Chef Philippe and his wife, Edith, are the proud owners of Si Bon Restaurant & Catering in Rancho Mirage. What started as a quaint European bistro quickly developed into a beloved dining destination. They brought a touch of Europe to the desert, from the vibrant decor featuring butter-yellow walls and stunning fine art to accompany the delightful dishes that draw in locals and visitors alike.
The journey of Si Bon wasn’t without its challenges. Opening its doors in March of 2013, Si Bon missed out on the busy tourist season in the desert but still gathered a loyal customer base that kept the restaurant thriving throughout its first summer. Then came the pandemic, which hit the restaurant industry hard. Yet, Chef Philippe’s resilience and adaptability led to a new vision—expanding Si Bon into full-service catering. This move, inspired by the necessity to cater during the pandemic, has now become a permanent part of Si Bon’s offerings.
Chef Philippe’s love for chocolate has always been a driving force in his culinary pursuits, and his dream of expanding into the world of pastry recently came to life with the acquisition of Pastry Swan Bakery. Renamed Si Bon Bakery & Kitchen, this venture marks a significant milestone for Chef Philippe, combining his passion for artisan bread and 100% homemade chocolate with the legacy of a bakery that has been a local favorite since 1985.
Chef Philippe wanted to learn from the very best, and recently honed his skills in France. He mastered the art of artisan bread-making and expanded his expertise in pastry. Bringing this knowledge back to Si Bon Bakery & Kitchen, he has elevated the bakery with exquisite cakes, pastries, and cookies that reflect his commitment to quality and his childhood love for chocolate. Chef Philippe’s dedication to handcrafting each creation, from breads to chocolates, underscores his pursuit of perfection in every bite.
Si Bon is no longer just a restaurant—it’s a multi-faceted establishment that includes a full-service bakery and catering division. Whether you’re looking to savor a Belgian- inspired meal at their bistro or indulge in custom-made cakes and pastries for your special occasions, Si Bon offers a range of culinary experiences designed to make every moment memorable.
