After an ambitious and successful 18-month construction schedule, Acrisure Arena is open as an incredible 11,000-person capacity world-class venue for sports and entertainment. On Tuesday December 13th keynote speakers, the Doobie Brothers, and hundreds of spectators gathered to witness the ribbon cutting to mark its historic grand opening.
Inspiration for the arena started out with a vision for a home for the Firebirds, the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Seattle Kraken. The Coachella
Valley Firebirds played on the road and borrowed the Climate Pledge Arena, home of Seattle Kraken, until the final touches to the Acrisure Arena were finalized in December 2022.
The first ever home game on the Acrisure Arena ice was on December 18th. When the lighting dimmed during the opening ceremonies, the red glow of the thousands of fan light sticks intensified, followed by a thunderous and goosebump-worthy roar from the crowd as the Firebirds made their fiery grand entrance on ice. The crowd’s cheering throughout the game heightened as the CV Firebirds and the Tucson Roadrunners were both thirsty to win; ultimately the CV Firebirds secured a 4-3 win.
