Animal Samaritans is pleased to welcome Dr. Dennis W. Macy to its veterinary staff. Dr. Macy is a Board-Certified Internal Medicine and Oncology Veterinary Specialist, with more than forty years of experience caring for animals. For more than 16 years, Dr. Macy has been serving the oncological needs of pet family members in the Desert.
Dr. Macy examines, diagnoses and treat dogs and cats with cancer from Animal Samaritans Veterinary Clinic in Thousand Palms, located at 72120 Pet Land Place. Current and new clients can set appointments with Dr. Macy through Animal Samaritans’ pet oncology line at 760.332.5030.
As a non-profit organization, Animal Samaritans will allocate a portion of its financial aid programs for pets with cancer. As in human medicine, oncology services for pets can be expensive. Animal Samaritans’ CEO Tom Snyder stated “Our goal is to build a financial aid program to help pet owners struggling to pay for the oncology care of their pets.”
In treating pet cancer patients, Dr. Macy considers the efficacy of treatment as well as the pet’s overall quality of life. In early 2021, Animal Samaritans established much-needed veterinary urgent care services. Today, their urgent care staff is well-suited to assist Dr. Macy.
Animal Samaritans is raising funds to build a new Pet Adoption & Humane Education Center next to their Veterinary Clinic in Thousand Palms, and to expand their veterinary clinic. Included in these plans are designated rooms for pet oncology services.
Animal Samaritans SPCA, is a non-profit organization, started in 1978 and brought the first free Humane Education program and first low-cost spay and neuter clinic to the Desert. As the Coachella Valley’s most comprehensive animal welfare organization, they strive to one day eliminate the needless suffering and abuse of homeless and unwanted animals. Programs and services in place to save the lives of healthy and treatable animals include prevention through humane education, affordable spay and neuter, vaccinations/vet care, animal sheltering, animal rescue, pet fostering and pet adoptions. In addition, volunteers from their Animal Companion Therapy program visit special needs classrooms, nursing homes and local hospitals.
